Billy McArthur – Process Technician

Our Process Technician, Billy McArthur tells us a little bit about himself.

Tell us a bit about your career background and your role at MiAlgae.

I gained by BSc (Hons) in Chemistry at Heriot Watt University in 1993 and have nearly 30 years’ experience in the chemical industry employed as a Manufacturing Technician at the Earls Gate site in Grangemouth. Having been made redundant in March this year, I was very fortunate to be employed by Mialgae from April, initially as a Process Operator and now after promotion as a Process Technician. My role currently is to support our Assistant Site Manager in the daily operation of the Balfron site & to take the lead on shift his absence.

What’s the work environment and team dynamic like at MiAlgae?

The shift team at MiAlgae is full of enthusiastic and driven young guys who are a pleasure to work with. Every day is a learning experience and a real serious team effort.

What excites you most about the future of MiAlgae?

As far as the future of MiAlgae is concerned, I believe the sky is the limit. The concept of what we are now achieving is quite simply very exciting. The move to our new production facility next year is going to give us the opportunity to get to where we want to be, bring it on!

What keeps you busy away from the site?

In my spare time I am a keen lawn bowler in the summer months which I really enjoy. I also like to keep fit, and 5km runs maybe three times in the week is something I try to stick to. I am very into my football and really enjoy attending the games when I can. I’m a busy family man and wouldn’t have it any other way.

Fun fact about you?

I love my holidays and travel, it’s great to see new places, such a brilliant thing to do. My World Traveller App is getting busier, but still many places on my list.
