Duncan Glen – Production Technician

Our Production Technician, Duncan Glen tells us a little bit about himself.

Tell us a bit about your career background and your role at MiAlgae.

I have seven years of experience in the chemical industry. Initially, I served as a modern apprentice for four years and obtained a HND in Chemical Process Technology. However, due to site closures at my previous workplaces, I decided to make the exciting transition to the Biotech sector, joining MiAlgae in late June 2024. Recently, I was promoted to Production Technician, which has expanded my responsibilities in overseeing day-to-day operations and supporting the Shift Lead in coordinating production tasks.

What’s the work environment and team dynamic like at MiAlgae?

Every day is a learning day, bringing new challenges that we overcome together. Our team is filled with enthusiastic individuals, each with their own unique strengths.

What excites you most about the future of MiAlgae?

I am thrilled to be part of a company that is rapidly expanding and thriving. I am eagerly anticipating the progress of our new Central Belt production site and the greater positive environmental impact that MiAlgae will have.

What keeps you busy away from the site?

I enjoy heading out to the West Coast or the Scottish islands with my fiancé and our senior dog, whether we’re camping in our rooftop tent or enjoying some wild camping. I also love fishing, and I’m always up for bagging a new Munro!

Fun fact about you?

I am fully deaf and require two cochlear implants to enable me to hear. I underwent cochlear surgery at the age of five and was among the first individuals in Scotland to receive two implants. I don’t let my disability hold me back, and the team at MiAlgae provides excellent support, even when they may have to repeat themselves several times during the shift. #Pardon?
