Peter Ferrie – Production Shift Lead

Our Production Shift Lead, Peter Ferrie tells us a little bit about himself.

Tell us a bit about your career background and your role at MiAlgae.

I've worked in production for around 10 years now. I started as an apprentice in the Oil and Gas sector and became a qualified Process Operator in that field before moving over to Biotech. I think that time gave me a good grounding and the skills I picked up over that period transferred very well when coming to work at MiAlgae. I started with MiAlgae in October 2023 as a Production Operator and earlier this year moved to become a Shift Leader. As a Shift Leader it's my job to direct & guide the team to ensure our production targets are being met and to deal with all the little bumps in the road that come our way.

What’s the work environment and team dynamic like at MiAlgae?

A few words spring to mind but the one that stands out is definitely collaborative - either within a team or between departments. Everyone's encouraged to bounce ideas back and forth and I really think that helps push the company on. It's a small, yet growing, team where we're all pulling together in the same direction.

What excites you most about the future of MiAlgae?

The potential is massive for the company. There's so many new innovations coming that really make it seem as though the sky's the limit. On the more ecological side if things I'm glad to be a part of something that's helping us build a more sustainable future and lessen the impact on the planet.

What keeps you busy away from the site?

I live a pretty quiet life if I'm honest. At the weekends I enjoy going to the football and I do a lot of cooking at home. I've been meaning to pick up golf again and it's something I'm hoping to get better at... needless to say, there's plenty room for improvement.

Fun fact about you?

I've not found much use for it yet, but I can move each ear independently.
